Dates: 1 and 2 August 2026
This two day experiential workshop is designed for therapists, counsellors, psychotherapists and practitioners who want to learn the fundamentals of working with parts. Across two days, we will explore the theory, language, and lived experience of subpersonalities, within trauma informed practice and clinical application.
Rather than treating parts work as a single method, this workshop places it within a broader lineage of psychological and therapeutic models. Participants will be invited to understand how different frameworks speak of the psyche, and how to work with parts in ways that are respectful, ethical, and attuned to trauma.
Day 1: Fundamentals of Subpersonalities
Day one focuses on theory, conceptual grounding, and clinical orientation.
We will explore, experientially the psychosynthesis parts model that informed Richard Schwartz’s development of Internal Family Systems, including the self (s) as the organising principle of the personality and the role of parts. We will also consider the Higher Self’s (S) relevance to parts and the relationship with value, meaning and purpose.
Additional parts based and relational models will be included:
- Transactional Analysis and ego states such as Parent, Adult, and Child
- The Karpman Drama Triangle and the roles of Persecutor, Victim, and Rescuer
- Gestalt perspectives on parts and polarities
- Jungian archetypes and complexes
- Internal Family Systems and its notion of protectors, exiles, and firefighters
We will reflect on how these frameworks overlap, where they differ, and how clinicians can choose language and approaches that fit their clients, context, and personal style.
This work is experiential so that clinicians can have their own experience of working with parts before using with their clients.
Day 2: Collage Your Parts
Day two is experiential and creative. Using collage as a therapeutic tool, participants will explore their own inner system and learn techniques that can be used in their personal lives and client work.
Through collage exercises, we will work with a combination of the following:
- The inner child
- A psychosynthesis Self-quality
- Shadow
- Other parts discovered throughout the workshop
The collage process offers a non verbal, symbolic, and embodied way of working with parts. It can be particularly useful for clients who struggle with cognitive or language based approaches, or who benefit from gentle, symbol and image led exploration.

About Jodie
PACFA Certified Supervisor | PACFA Registered Clinical Psychotherapist | PACFA Registered Clinical Counsellor
I have been working with parts and subpersonalities for most of my professional life, beginning with my own therapy in 1997. That personal experience shaped my clinical path and led me into an 8-year formal training in psychosynthesis which included the subpersonality model of the psyche.
Over the years, I have continued to study and integrate multiple parts based and depth oriented frameworks, drawing from psychosynthesis, Jungian perspectives, relational and attachment theory, and trauma informed practice. In 2022, I trained in Internal Family Systems, which has further refined and expanded how I understand protective patterns, vulnerable parts, and Self led healing.
My approach is integrative and I am committed to helping practitioners understand how different parts frameworks speak to one another, how they serve real clients in complex lives, and how to work in ways that are ethical, attuned, and trauma sensitive.
This workshop reflects both long term clinical experience and a respect for the inner worlds of clients and therapists alike.
