This post will continue to be updated with the latest news on the National Standards for Counsellors and Psychotherapists.
PACFA has officially announced the publication of the National Standards for Counsellors and Psychotherapists – a landmark step in advancing recognition, consistency, and remuneration across our profession. These Standards, strongly aligned with PACFA’s existing registration and accreditation requirements, highlight the value counsellors and psychotherapists bring to Australia’s mental health sector and the strong support from the Australian Government and Department of Health, Disability and Ageing.
Implementation will take place gradually over the next 3 – 5 years, with consultation across key bodies. The Standards outline six domains – Education & Training, Professional Practice, Ethics, Competency, Diversity & Inclusion, and Quality Assurance – across three career stages. Most PACFA-registered practitioners already meet or exceed these requirements.
