Underneath every eating disorder, food struggle, or body image concern is a story yearning to be heard – in supervision, we have the opportunity to hold space not just for the client’s symptoms, but for their deeper story – what lives beneath the eating behaviours, and that which needs to be integrated and healed.
This group supervision is designed to go beyond the behaviours. We will explore disordered eating, food weight and body image concerns through multiple lenses:
- Attachment, complex and developmental trauma
- Depth and self psychology
- Jungian archetypes and myths
- Body-based and somatic approaches
- Health at Every Size (HAES)
- Eating psychology
- Parts, the inner child & subpersonality work
- Soul-centred perspectives
- And most importantly – the unique therapeutic lens you bring
NB: the DSM, diagnosis, and behavioural models will not be the focus of this supervision. Instead, we aim to discover the underlying concerns and core unmet needs driving disordered eating. Together, we’ll ask:
- What is the eating disorder calling for the client to awaken to in themselves?
- What wounds lie beneath the surface?
- What is the soul-self truly hungry for?
Each participant will bring their client work to the group. In addition to peer and facilitator reflection, we will also draw on selected clinical vignettes and stories to deepen our understanding:
🌀 Yalom’s “Fat Betty” from Love’s Executioner – a powerful clinical account of weight, identity, and the therapeutic relationship.
🧜♀️ Seal Skin, Soul Skin from Women Who Run With the Wolves – which speaks to hunger, exile from self, and the journey home to soul.
Through these stories, we reflect not only on our clients’ journeys, but on our own countertransference, clinical blind spots, and therapeutic presence. This group will have a Health at Every Size approach.
